Beyond Her Calling: Author Interview & Giveaway!

It’s been fun being discovering this charming series. Beyond her calling features, Ivy. With her sister Alice now married and gone, she wonders what her meaning in life is. Book 4 takes her to Scotland as she faces her anxiety disorder and goes on a quest to find her calling. I rate it a 5 star and can’t wait for book 5 to release this summer. ❤️

Author Interview:

What is your favorite theme in Beyond Her Calling?

One thing I love about writing this kind of novel is that I can talk about quite a few things, but the favorite subject I get to discuss in this particular novel is probably following God—even when His exact plan for you is not absolutely clear.

If you were stuck on a deserted island, which 3 books would you want with you?

I’m going to leave out the Bible for the sake of fairness. That said, my top three would probably be A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton-Porter, Emma by Jane Austen, and A Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë.

Do you have another profession besides writing?

I have had several part-time jobs over the years, both related to writing and not. I really like working in childcare, which is also nice, because it gets me moving around and doing a lot. Which is very good for me!

What advice would you give budding writers?

My best advice is to be willing to take criticism—and then to keep writing. It’s so important for us to both be able to accept negative feedback and then to keep going. Otherwise, you’re not going to make it. The world doesn’t need sensitive snowflakes who are going to melt at the first bit of push-back.

If there is one thing you want readers to remember about you, what would it be?

This is kind of an annoying one, but I want people to remember that I never lie or hide the truth. I’m honest, to the point of being obnoxious at times. 😛

Beyond Her Calling:

Ivy Knight feels that her life may never start. Though her loving family assures her that her place in the world is close to home, she still feels a push to move out of her comfort zone. Hoping against hope, she travels to her old friends at McCale House, seeking a purpose.

Jordy McAllen has just returned to Scotland after his education in London. He fears that what everyone has always said about him may be true: he can’t be a good doctor, let alone a good man. Determined to prove himself, Jordy snatches up the opportunity to become the doctor in the village of Keefmore near his parents’ farm.

When an old friend decides to travel to Keefmore and visit a relative, Ivy follows. She soon finds herself drawn to Jordy, but as their attraction grows, they both face doubts. A relationship between the two of them feels improbable—and might just require a step of impossible faith.
