Slave of Righteousness

Happy Thursday! Almost the end of the week you’ll!

In August I joined a small group from church that meets every other week for bible study.  Last Friday,  after a delicious Asian meal, we discussed what it meant to abide in God. We decided that aside from our daily devotional we were going to at least memorize one verse weekly. This is one area I lack in my spiritual life but, know it’s necessary. So I am up for the challenge even though I struggle to keep my girls’👭name straight lol.

I’ll probably be memorizing the scriptures I occasionally post here from my bible journaling. However the first verse I want to engrave in my heart is Romans 6:18

Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

I want to remember who I serve. As humans we have the ability to choose our actions. However if I say Jesus is my Lord, that would make him my master and I will do what he asks of me. I know I’m not perfect and will fall short at times, but he will continue to free me from my sins if I sincerely repent. I love how the NIV uses the word slave instead of servant. It may not be easy but, I’d rather be a slave to obedience than to sin. I did my share time of slaving to sin, and I felt so much despair. The funny thing is that I chose that miserable life, SMH. As I now try to serve Him, I feel so much peace and I prefer that over despair. 💕

  1. Good post!

“Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

  2. Amen! This is whole chapter was good. I thought of memorizing the whole thing but, I have to take baby steps. 😁
After I was freed from my iniquities, it was easy for me to think I was good and on my way to a happily ever after in heaven. It took me a while to realize that wasn’t so. I am now a servant to my savior and must obey his will, if not I become a slave to sin again. This verse is one I need to remember to stay in check and have a spirit of servitude to God.

  3. I need to improve with this, too! Right before I clicked on this post, I was thinking it was funny that I was referring to a verse in a comment earlier as “a verse Paul wrote in one of his letters” cause I couldn’t remember the name. ♥

  4. Totally understand! I’m especially bad with some of the OT. I’ll be like it’s in one of the prophets…Hosea…maybe Jeremiah…………it can even be Isaiah….maybe 🤔. Lol
